(1) Robofest 2008 Warm-up Competition

Where: Lawrence Tech, Buell Management Building, Southfield, Michigan

Date/Time: Saturday, March 8, 10:00 a.m. ~ 2:30 pm

 

We are currently seeking a few teams to participate in the Warm-Up Competition for the following divisions:

* Games: 3 Jr. teams and 2 Sr. teams

* Exhibition: 3 Jr. teams and 2 Sr. teams

* RoboFashion: 2 Jr. teams

* RoboSumo: 3 Jr. teams and 3 Sr. teams

 

To participate, please send an e-mail with your team ID to Jerri Ureel, [email protected] or call 248-204-3568. Free lunch and a small gift will be given to the team members. You must be a registered team for 2008 to participate in the warm up competition.

 

We are also looking for Judges and Volunteers for this competition. Please go to www.robofest.net and register on-line after clicking “volunteer registration” link or directly at http://admin.robofest.org/index.jsp?siteID=81

 

For teams, site hosts, and judges who are not in close proximity to LTU, we will post streaming video of the Warm-Up on the web site after the event. This event is open to the public and admission is free.

(2) Free team Registration at the MACUL Grand Rapids site  
Any of the teams that register for Robofest MACUL qualifying site in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Wed., March 5, 2008  12:00 p.m.  ~ 5:00 p.m., will have a free registration thanks to a grant from the REMC Association. Free lunch will be provided for teams, too. Space is limited. Please register teams now. Robofest will be held as an associate event during the MACUL (Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning) conference, March 5-7. For more information about the conference, please go to: http://www.macul.org/. Register teams now! Since it is the earliest qualifying site, teams will have higher chance to advance to the World Championship. The registration will be closing on Feb 23.

 

(3) Robofest Seeks Your Help in Reaching More Students

Robofest is now in full swing. Some divisions at some sites are already full. Please register early in order to compete at the site near your school or home.

 

Robofest is always looking for ways to promote participation in our competition.  If you are a member of an organization, an on-line community, list serve, or other group who might be interested in being a part of Robofest, please forward them information about the Robofest 2008 Season, or direct them the Robofest web site address, www.robofest.net .   Robofest is also willing to send out electronic and hard copies of promotional flyers if you forward mailing lists to [email protected] . Please forward this eNews to your children’s school, family and friends now!  Thank you for your continued support!!

 

(4) NXTG programming workshop for Robofest in Texas

There will be a NXTG Programming Workshop on Saturday March 1, 2008 from 10am -12 noon in the Spring area in north Houston. The workshop will help teams better prepare for the upcoming Robofest competitions in April.  The focus will be on programming the NXT, not on the specific challenge. No prior robotics or programming experience required. No NXT or other robot required, just show up ;-)

(5)  Robofest Coordinator Update

We welcome a new Robofest coordinator, Jeff Sparling, who was a Robofest coach, a teacher, now is an adjunct Professor. He will be coordinating CFSEM/DADA funded Robofest sites in Detroit and Highland Park.
