(1) Robofest 2009 Kick off on Dec 11, 2008

10th anniversary Robofest 2009 will be kicked-off on Thu. Dec. 11, 2008 from 5:45~7:30pm (EST) at LTU in Southfield in Buell Mgt. Building, room M218. Rules will be announced and team registration will begin directly after the meeting. This meeting will be broadcast using Wimba on the web at:

If you want to join the online meeting, then we recommend you test the connection before the meeting.

 

Also, you can call in to the meeting:  Toll free   1-866-502-8312, then enter passcode 845828 for conference name Robofest. 

 

Additional repeated Kick-off meetings will be held on the following dates:

+Fri. Dec. 12, 2008: 6pm, LTU in Buell Mgt. Building, room M218

+Sat. Dec. 13, 2008:10am, LTU in Taubman Building, room C406 (see the room change)

 

Black Dog Robotics (www.blackdogrobotics.com) will provide 1 set of NXT compatible ribbon cables as door prize for each of the three Robofest 2009 Kickoff meetings.

 

(2) NXT with Lejos Java Seminar right after the Kick-Off on Thu

Mr. Jason Butka, a Computer Programming teacher at Belleville High School in Michigan is presenting a seminar on NXT with Lejos Java programming, right after the Kick-off meeting in M218 on Thu, 7:30pm. He will also demonstrate how speed and acceleration can be calculated using NXT ultra sonic sensors in Java.

 

(3) Fall Robofest Mini Urban Challenge on Dec 11 in Michigan

This year’s Fall Mini Urban Challenge problem has been posted at http://www.robofest.net/collegiate

The official competition course will be setup on Thu, Dec 11, 2008, around 4:00pm. Teams may use the real course to practice starting at 4:30pm. There will be a fuel cell robot (H2Bot) demo at 8:30pm just before the award. This event is open to the public and held in the atrium right outside of Room M218.

 

(4) World Robofest Date Change – New date: May 9, 2008

Please note that the World Robofest 2009 Championship date has changed to Sat May 9, not May 2.

+Jan ~ Feb: Technical Workshops on Saturdays

+Sat. Feb 28: Warm-up competition at Lawrence Tech, in Michigan 2 ~ 6pm

+March ~ April 18, 2009: Qualifying Competitions

+Fri, May 8, 2009: Special Dinner to celebrate the 10th anniversary (5pm, tentative)

+Sat, May 9, 2009: World Robofest Championship

 

(5) NASA Invites Students to Name New Mars Rover

(6) MCWTF Offering Four $500 Grants to All-Female Teams in Michigan

Robofest is pleased to announce that four grants of $500 each are available to all-female Robofest 2009 Teams from Michigan.  The grant is being offered by the MCWTF (http://www.mcwtf.org).  If you are interested in applying for one of these grants supporting all-female Robofest Teams from Michigan you can obtain the application at www.robofest.net.  The grant application is due no later than December 15, 2008.  If you have difficulty accessing the site or downloading the application, please send an email to [email protected] or call 248-281-5391.

 

The Michigan Council of Women in Technology Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to inspiring and assisting girls and women in Michigan to pursue technology education and careers. We do this by providing educational programs and scholarships, as well as ongoing support as they move through the educational system.
